Supply List:
(These items can be purchased at Olie and Evie, Walmart, Hobby Lobby, Michaels, local quilt shops, online at
most quilt shops, or on Amazon.
*Pre starch your center blocks. If you want to turn these blocks into a finished project, pick what color you
want to have as your center square and have ½ to ¾ of a yard of that fabric. Saturate overnight the full piece
of center square fabric and lay out to dry on a drying rack. If you would like to precut your center squares, you
can do this or wait for class.
Center square can be any size, not just the finished log size. I typically cut my center square the same size as
my logs. (If using the 1” finished size, I cut the center square at 1 ½”. This time I used a 2 ½” center square and
the 1 ½” logs to see how I like it. Experiment! There is no wrong way!)
*Spray starch-Any brand
*Basic sewing items (sewing machine, thread, scissors, seam ripper, rotary cutter)
*Cutting mat (One mat will be available at the shop 24”x36” for shared use, but if you want to avoid a wait in
line, bring a small mat to have at your station.)
*Small ruler for sizing up at least 2 ½ inches wide
*Bloc Loc Log Cabin ruler small or large. Small ruler finishes at sizes ½” and 1”, the medium ruler finishes at ¾”
and 1 ½”. You decide if you want a larger block or smaller and bring that ruler.
*Pressing mat and iron. (One iron and ironing board will be available at the shop for shared use, but if you
want to avoid a wait in line, bring a personal mat and mini-iron. Wool pressing mats work great, but are not
required)
*SCRAPS!!!! All lengths. If you are using the small ruler, scraps need to be at least 1 ¾ inches wide. If you are
using the large ruler, at least 2 inches wide. Bring low volume or lights and colorful, or dark to medium scraps.
Bring scraps to share! (Sometimes other quilter’s scraps look more fun than your own.)
*If you would like to pre-starch your fabric that is also fine to do. Or do it in class as you go with each log cabin
round.
*If you want to use fabric that all matches well or has a color theme, you may want to bring a few fat quarters
from a certain line (make sure you have contrast of lights and darks, or low volumes and darker prints) or a
jelly roll. Charm squares will not be large enough to do the full block but can be used for a few rounds.
*Something to take notes (if you are a note taker)
*Large pair of scissors if you would like to chain-piece your blocks.
